Step 2: Insert the column sum placeholder

To insert the sum of a number column, use the <<column_sum:COLUMN LABEL>> placeholder anywhere in your Google Doc template, where “COLUMN LABEL” should be replaced with the name of your column.

Examples:

  • If your column name is “Amount”, you should insert the placeholder as follows:
    <<column_sum:Amount>>
  • If your column name is “Extended Price”, you should insert the placeholder as follows:
    <<column_sum:Extended Price>>

The <<column_sum>> placeholder will insert the sum from all the rows in your board. You can easily control which row should be summed using the built-in monday.com filter: just click on the “Filter” button at the top of the DocuGen view, then filter the board based on any criteria you want. The column sum placeholder will show the sum of the rows based on the filter you specified. More here.

Special Case: if you want to insert the value from the very first column on your board (which does not have a name), use “Item” for the column name: <<column_firstrow:Item>>
